16/12/2025

Sri Lanka has suffered one of the most severe natural disasters in recent decades due to Cyclone Ditwah, which made landfall on November 28, 2025, causing torrential rains, floods, and landslides across the country.
From Naturalea, we have made a contribution through our coconut fiber material suppliers so that, through them, we can help improve, as much as possible, the living conditions of the affected people in the area.
Human Impact
- Nearly 1 million people affected across all 25 districts, with more than 400 deaths, hundreds missing, and around 200,000 people displaced in over 1,000 designated shelters (source).
- UNICEF reports 1.47 million people impacted, including 275,000 children, and 336 missing (source).

- Floodwaters have reached nearly 720,000 buildings, inundating over 1.1 million hectares — about 20% of the territory.
Service Collapse
- The Kelani River, near Colombo, overflowed, cutting access and hampering rescue efforts (source).
- The electricity grid, communications network, and much of the potable water supply have been severely compromised, leaving areas without hygienic access and at risk of epidemics.
Healthcare and Food Support
- Hospitals in flooded districts are operating with limited resources; critical patients have been airlifted.
- WHO warns of the growing risk of waterborne and vector-borne diseases.
Economic Impact
- The economic impact is estimated at 6 to 7 billion dollars, resulting from damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and essential services.
