Improvement work for the Urban River Lab (URL) facilities

During 2020, the Blanes Centre for Advanced Studies (CEAB), the Besós Tordera Consortium, and Naturalea made an investment of more than €160,000 to improve the URL. The work consisted of the installation of a flow meter system that allows for computerised control and recording of the flow of the channels, new waterproofing of these, the installation of a prefabricated shed as a workspace, and the arrangement of the metal ponds. These modifications will allow for improvement in the working conditions. Research is currently being carried out on halophyte plants (which work with salt) within the framework of the OPERANDUM project.

At the Urban River Lab, the pioneering open-air research laboratory in southern Europe, we do research to develop new tools and strategies to improve the quality of our rivers and assess riverside ecosystem services.
